When we are in the studio we really enjoy getting things accomplished. The best way to accomplish things is to be prepared for the time. For every hour in the studio we are spending time outside of the studio preparing. It’s a ton of fun to be planning out what we want to get done and how we are going to do it.
Inspiration Is Key
“Planning is invaluable, plans are useless.” I think Winston Churchhill said that. Whoever said it though makes a wonderful point. When you’re in the heat of the moment, staunchly sticking to the plan is rarely the best strategy. What we’ve found is that by carrying inspiration with us into the studio we are best able to get the sounds and parts that best suit the songs. Being inspired to create is one of the most rewarding parts of playing music. When we play from a place of inspiration we find that sometimes we have quite a bit to sift through after tracking.
Too Many Parts Isn’t A Bad Problem
When we do finish tracking, often times we have so many ideas that we’ve laid down we have to take some time to start finding the best parts and compile a coherent song. This overload of ideas is much better than the opposite problem to have. I love the feeling of seeing a song become so full it is bursting at the seams. When you listen it almost feels it’s about to pop. That’s when we get to comb through some of the tracks and begin to boil the song down into an optimized version. Eventually we refine them to the best version we can get them to. It’s a magical thing to see the song progress like this.Time Is More Valuable Than You Know
Time is everything. The time spent in the studio doubly so. When we go in to the studio it is not just the time that we are spending there that is important to us. The studio time is a manifestation of months, sometimes years that have been poured into our music. Every moment in the studio can be a spiritual awakening that happens in moments of creation. That said, it’s the countless hours writing and preparing for the studio that make it so incredible.
As we near the end of our first album it is awe inspiring to look back and reflect on the path that has brought us here. That said, we like to keep our eyes forward. We are extraordinarily excited about some of the plans we have for the release of the album, as well as the future of the movement.
